Dear Sarah,
I hope this email finds you in radient health and best of spirits. I am writing this email to recommend the sport you asked you want to learn for yourself. I would advice you to join badminton because the badminton court is nearby the area you live in.
The sport complex I am advising, also has swimming pool. You are not only talkative person but also a health anthusiast so that starting badminton will help to keep your body fit. Additionally, you will meet new people around and can make new friends. Moreover, the sport complex provides discount to the new commers and free coaching is provided. With the guidance of instructer, it will a piece of cake for you to learn and achieve the medals.
As i also have not took a formal tarining on badminton, I would like to join you at the place. By starting the sport together will allow us to meet every other day.
I hope you will give a thought about my suggestion and see you soon.
Yours lovingly,
Pam

| Criterion | Band |
|---|---|

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You recommended badminton, explained how to learn it (via the sports complex and coaching), and suggested learning it together. The tone is appropriate for an email to a friend. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly more on the benefits of the sport or the specific logistics of the coaching to provide a more fully developed response. However, all requirements of the task are met clearly and effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The email is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Moreover', and 'As', which help the flow of ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'the sport you asked you want to learn', which is a bit repetitive and clunky. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would help elevate this score. Overall, the progression of ideas is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'enthusiast', 'guidance', and 'formal training'. There are some spelling errors, such as 'radient' (radiant), 'anthusiast' (enthusiast), 'commers' (comers), and 'instructer' (instructor). Additionally, there are some awkward collocations, such as 'achieve the medals' instead of 'win medals' or 'take a formal training' instead of 'take formal training'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more attention to spelling and common word partnerships to reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I would advice' (advise), 'nearby the area' (near the area), and 'By starting the sport together will allow us' (Starting the sport together will allow us). The use of articles and prepositions is occasionally inconsistent. While you attempt complex structures, the frequency of these minor errors prevents a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct usage of modal verbs will help improve your accuracy in future writing tasks.
