You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear ....................................,

Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Friend ,

I hope that you have been doing great . I am writing this to help you choose that best sport according to your interest and physical strength . To be honest , I think you should start with something that is associated with less physical fatigue . As much as I know about you , you are not really very physically active person so sports like volleyball or handball will be great for you .

We have this new volleyball club that recently opened near Younju station. This place would be great to start learning this sport as I have heard that the coach is really a great player and had played this sport nation wide .

The timetable is very flexible for the classes and I would be happy to join you as I have plenty of free time that I can make a little useful by joining you . I will see you shortly .

your regards,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the task. You recommend volleyball, explain how to learn it by mentioning the club and the coach, and suggest learning it together. The tone is appropriate for an email to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat brief. To reach a higher band, you could expand on why volleyball is specifically suitable for your friend's personality or provide more detail about the 'flexible' nature of the classes. The content is relevant and the purpose of the email is clear from the beginning.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The email is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices like 'To be honest' and 'As much as I know about you' to connect ideas. However, the transition between the recommendation and the logistics of the club could be smoother. Some sentences feel slightly disconnected, and the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly, such as 'physical fatigue', 'nation wide', and 'flexible'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'make a little useful' (which should be 'make useful' or 'make the most of') and 'that best sport' (which should be 'the best sport'). While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, it lacks the precision and variety of less common lexical items that would be expected at a higher band level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'you are not really very physically active person' (missing an article: 'a... person') and 'had played this sport nation wide' (tense usage could be improved to 'has played'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some unnecessary spaces before commas. Despite these errors, the meaning is always clear, and the mistakes do not impede communication. To improve, focus on article usage and consistent verb tense control.
