Student answer (Band 8.0)
Dear Sara,
I hope you are doing well. I was delighted to hear that you are planning to learn a new sport. I would love to give some suggestions.
I remember how enthusiastic you were about learning badminton in our college days. I believe that badminton would suits you perfectly because it not only improves physical health but also concentration.
There are several sports centres in Lahore which offer training. I would recommend Lahore Development Authority Sports Complex because they have experienced and cooperative coaches. They have separate classes for beginners, so you can learn basic rules easily. Moreover, it is nearby to your home and it would be easy to go for class.
I was also thinking to learn some new sport. What if I join you, in this way we would be able to spend some quality time together and relive our memories. Furthermore, we can practice it at weekend. I cannot wait hearing from you.
With Love,
Sana.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You recommended badminton, explained how to learn it by suggesting a specific sports complex, and proposed learning it together. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the ideas are relevant and well-developed. The response is clear and maintains a consistent focus throughout, fulfilling the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.5
The email is logically organized with clear paragraphing. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'in this way' to link your ideas effectively. The progression of ideas is smooth, moving from the recommendation to the practical details and finally the suggestion to join together. The structure is easy to follow, and the use of referencing is clear throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task. Phrases like 'enthusiastic', 'cooperative coaches', and 'relive our memories' are used correctly and naturally. While the vocabulary is generally accurate, there are minor issues with word choice, such as 'nearby to your home' (should be 'near your home') and 'at weekend' (should be 'at the weekend'). These minor errors do not impede communication, and you successfully convey your message with a good level of precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are some grammatical slips, such as 'badminton would suits you' (should be 'would suit') and 'I cannot wait hearing from you' (should be 'I cannot wait to hear from you'). Despite these occasional errors, the majority of your sentences are clear and error-free. Your control of punctuation and sentence structure is generally good, and the meaning is never obscured by these minor inaccuracies.
