Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Alex,
I hope you are doing well.
I am writing to give advice on a new sport that you can learn. I would recommend cricket that you can learn because I feel that it suites your personality. I know you are very active, and conscious about your physical fitness. Since, you are very extrovert person, cricket will give a chance to build relationships with other players as it includes 11 members in a one team.
You can join sports club which has special coaches for this game. This sports club not only provides coaching, but also provides a free spaces for practice with your team or friends. You can get yearly memberships which would help you to stay consistent with your practice.
I would also like to learn the cricket, so I think we can join the club and get a training together. It will help us to be motivated.
I hope you will like my advice and suggestion about a new sport.
Thanks & Regards
Nishu Agrawal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the task. You clearly recommend cricket, explain how to learn it by joining a club, and propose learning it together. The tone is appropriate for an email to a friend. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, providing enough detail to satisfy the prompt. The purpose of the email is clear from the beginning, and the conclusion provides a polite closing. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly more on the benefits of the sport or the specific nature of the coaching to add more depth to your suggestions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The email is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a single main idea, which helps the reader follow your points easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Since', 'not only... but also', and 'I would also like to', which help connect your ideas. However, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to transition between sentences more smoothly. The paragraphing is appropriate for an informal email, and the progression of ideas is logical throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'conscious', 'physical fitness', 'extrovert', and 'memberships'. There are a few minor errors in word choice, such as 'suites' instead of 'suits' and 'the cricket' (the definite article is not needed before the name of a sport). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it is somewhat basic. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations or less common vocabulary related to sports and social activities to demonstrate a higher level of lexical control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I know you are very active, and conscious about your physical fitness.' There are some grammatical slips, such as 'Since, you are very extrovert person' (missing an article 'an' and an unnecessary comma) and 'provides a free spaces' (incorrect article usage with a plural noun). Despite these errors, your meaning is always clear, and the mistakes do not impede communication. To achieve a higher score, focus on consistent article usage and subject-verb agreement, and try to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures with greater accuracy.
