Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear raman,
Hi, i hope you are doing great. As you are taking my advice for learning a new sport. It is great opportunity to learn swimming as it will be helpful for you in your life.
There are lot of places where you can learn swimming, however, i will recommend you the delta recreation centre. I am suggesting this place because one of my friend had learned this sport from here and i have asked his experience. he told that it is such a great place to learn swimming as instructors are very helpful and cooperative with everyone. They give deep knowledge about each and everything.
As i go on lakes but i do not swim over there so it is also a great chance for me to learn this skill together.
Your Truly
Harry

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points: recommending a sport, explaining how to learn it, and suggesting you learn together. However, the response is under the 150-word minimum requirement, which limits the development of your ideas. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your suggestions with more detail. For example, instead of just mentioning the 'delta recreation centre', you could describe the atmosphere or the specific benefits of the swimming program. Because the response is under-length, the development of ideas is restricted, which impacts the overall task achievement score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The email is generally easy to follow, and you have used some basic cohesive devices like 'however' and 'as'. However, the paragraphing is quite limited, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. The transition between the recommendation and the suggestion to join together feels a bit abrupt. To improve, ensure that each paragraph focuses on one clear idea and use a wider variety of linking words to connect your thoughts more naturally. The structure is functional but lacks the sophisticated progression expected at higher levels.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate your message clearly, such as 'recreation centre', 'instructors', and 'cooperative'. However, there are some repetitive word choices and minor errors in collocation, such as 'give deep knowledge' instead of 'provide in-depth instruction'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise adjectives and idiomatic expressions suitable for an informal email to a friend. Your vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the flexibility and precision required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
Your writing contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'As you are taking my advice' (which is slightly unnatural), 'one of my friend had learned' (should be 'one of my friends learned'), and 'he told that' (should be 'he told me that'). Additionally, there are punctuation issues, such as missing spaces after commas and inconsistent capitalization. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they occur frequently enough to affect the overall accuracy of your writing.
