Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Rahul,
I hope you are doing good. I am very happy that you want to explore some new things and learning a new sport. I am always here to help you.
You have a very fit and fine body. And have good strength to learn a new sport. I really recommend you to play Badminton. This is very enjoyable sport especially in evening when there is sunset. It helps you to keep your body fit as well as relief from stress.
There is so many badminton courts where you can play and have expert's advice and training for free . I really recommend you to do some research on internet about their reviews and services before join.
I have one good news for you that I have holidays from next week and I am thinking to join you too . I really like to play badminton and also we can spend some time together.
Please let me know whenever you find any good option. Hope to see you soon.
Regards,
Ravneet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the task. You recommend badminton, explain how to learn it by suggesting research and local courts, and propose learning together. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, although the development of the 'how to learn' section is slightly brief. To reach a higher band, you could provide more specific details about the training process or the type of equipment needed to make the advice more practical and fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The email is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific part of the prompt. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'as well as' and 'also', to link your thoughts. However, the use of linking words is somewhat basic, and some transitions between sentences feel a bit mechanical. To improve, try using a wider variety of cohesive devices like 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition to this' to create a smoother flow between your ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'explore', 'enjoyable', and 'expert's advice'. There are some minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'fit and fine body' (which is not a standard English collocation) and 'relief from stress' (should be 'relief from stress' or 'stress relief'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and variety of less common lexical items that would be expected at a higher band level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'learning a new sport' (should be 'learn a new sport' to match the parallel structure), 'There is so many' (should be 'There are so many'), and 'before join' (should be 'before joining'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of gerunds after prepositions. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures would also help elevate your score.
