Student answer (Band 7.0)

Hi John,

How are you? How's it going? I saw your text yesterday about learning a new sport. I'm sorry I was busy, that's why I didn't reply to your text.

I read your message, so I recommend that you should learn badminton because, as you know you are overweight, and it will help you to maintain your weight. The best thing is that it is really easy to learn and doesn't need more people to play.

You can learn it from an academy near your home. I will even share all the details about it because my uncle is the owner of that academy and he can help you to learn it.

One more thing, I can join you because i have the morning shift for the next 3 months we can go together. We can learn and enjoy together it will be more beneficial for you.

I look forward from you. If you are ready we can start it from the 10th of this month.

with love

Aman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the task. You recommended badminton, explained how to learn it via an academy, and proposed learning it together. The tone is appropriate for an email to a friend. However, the suggestion that your friend should learn badminton because 'you are overweight' is socially insensitive and potentially offensive. In an IELTS task, even in an informal letter, it is important to maintain a polite and supportive tone. To improve, focus on positive benefits like fitness or fun rather than pointing out personal physical flaws, which detracts from the quality of the communication.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The email is logically organized with clear paragraphing, which helps the reader follow your ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'The best thing is that' and 'One more thing' to transition between points. However, some connections are slightly mechanical or repetitive. For example, the opening paragraph is a bit fragmented with short, simple questions. Improving the flow between sentences by using a wider variety of linking words or relative clauses would help the text feel more natural and cohesive.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully conveying your message. You use some relevant terms like 'academy' and 'morning shift'. However, the vocabulary is generally quite basic and repetitive. There are also minor issues with word choice, such as 'doesn't need more people to play' (which could be more naturally phrased as 'doesn't require a large group'). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise collocations and less common vocabulary related to sports and social arrangements.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors. For instance, 'I look forward from you' should be 'I look forward to hearing from you'. There are also punctuation issues, such as the run-on sentence 'We can learn and enjoy together it will be more beneficial for you' and the failure to capitalize 'i'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent capitalization.
