You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear ....................................,

Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear John,

I hope you are in the pink of health. I am writing this to give you advice about learning a new sport. Recently table tennis is becoming popular sport. I think it a best sport to learn these days. Moreover it is a indoor game which is also a good reason to select this game as you do not want to interrupt anything because of weather.

There are around 5 gaming centres in my town. Considering to learn from scratch, you can choose the centre which is near to your space. In this way you can utilise your travel time in game.

Even I am thinking to learn this game. My office has the tennis table but I am the only beginner there. That is why I am thinking to grab the opportunity to learn with you. Let me know if you have any question.

I hope to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.

Best wishes,

Mike.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: recommending a sport (table tennis), explaining how to learn it (local gaming centres), and suggesting learning together. The tone is appropriate for an email to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention gaming centres, you could have provided more detail on the learning process, such as mentioning coaching or practice sessions. The response is clear and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The email is logically organised into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific part of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'In this way' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition between mentioning the gaming centres and the suggestion to learn together is a bit abrupt. Overall, the message is easy to follow, and the paragraphing is appropriate for the task.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, such as 'in the pink of health' and 'from scratch'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'tennis table' (should be 'table tennis table') and 'near to your space' (which sounds unnatural; 'near your home' or 'in your area' would be better). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'Recently table tennis is becoming popular sport' (missing articles: 'a popular sport') and 'I think it a best sport' (missing verb: 'it is the best sport'). Additionally, 'I hope to hearing from you' is incorrect; it should be 'I look forward to hearing from you' or 'I hope to hear from you'. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the email.
