Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Raman,

Hope you are fine, Here i would like to recommeded you a new sport that you can easily learn by watching it online. yesterday when was crossing from the street , i met with your mother then she told me that you are looking for a new sport to learn. After that when i reach home i really think about it deeply. I remember that when we are in 10th standard you love to watch the football so according to me you should keep focus on this because it helps to boost your confidence and increase your stamina. Along with this , you can easily learn this sport while playing with me in the village playground becuase that is really much big . Even if we do this together you can easily learn becuase i have a lot skills related to this game which i can easily teach you. Hope you accept my offer.

Yours Sincerely

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all three bullet points of the task: recommending a sport (football), explaining how to learn it (online and through practice), and suggesting learning it together. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. The explanation of how to learn the sport is quite basic, relying on general statements rather than specific, actionable advice. While the tone is appropriate for an email to a friend, the content lacks the depth required for a higher band score. The response is clearly focused on the task, but the ideas could be expanded with more detail to better satisfy the 'fully developed' requirement of higher bands.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The email is generally coherent, but the paragraphing is non-existent, which affects the overall structure. The flow of ideas is somewhat mechanical, relying on simple connectors like 'After that' and 'Along with this'. There is a lack of sophisticated cohesive devices to link sentences and ideas smoothly. While the progression of the letter is logical—moving from the reason for writing to the recommendation and finally the invitation—the lack of clear paragraph breaks makes the text feel like a single block of information, which hinders the overall readability and logical presentation.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'really think about it deeply' and 'a lot skills' are simplistic and contain minor errors in collocation. There is little attempt to use less common or more precise vocabulary. For example, instead of 'really much big', a more natural expression would be 'spacious' or 'large'. The spelling errors, such as 'recommeded' and 'becuase', are frequent enough to be noticeable, though they do not impede the reader's understanding of the message.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include incorrect verb tenses ('when we are in 10th standard you love'), missing articles ('from the street'), and punctuation errors (spaces before commas). Subject-verb agreement and word order are also inconsistent. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, the student should focus on sentence construction, tense consistency, and basic punctuation rules.
