Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You recommend football, explain how to learn it by attending local school sessions, and suggest learning it together. The tone is appropriate for an email to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the explanation of how to learn the sport is a bit repetitive regarding the training routine. To improve, ensure that your ideas are expanded with more descriptive language or personal context to fully satisfy the requirements of a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the recommendation to the practical details and finally the invitation. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite basic and sometimes mechanical. There is a lack of paragraphing, which makes the text appear as a single block, hindering the overall flow. To improve, you should use clear paragraph breaks to separate the different points of the task and incorporate a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in addition') to connect your ideas more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your message clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific vocabulary like 'football coach', 'skills', and 'participate'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'feel embarrassing living in home' and 'handle football in your steps'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. Expanding your range of collocations and idiomatic expressions would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('everyone have'), missing articles ('in football'), and incorrect verb forms ('start learn it'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing capital letters and improper comma usage. While these errors rarely prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to keep the score in the 5.5 to 6.0 range. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for small errors will lead to significant improvement.
