Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Gurlabh,

I hope your are doing well. I am very excited that you want to learn a new sport and asked me for advice.

I will suggest you swimming which is really good to stay fit and calm.

you can start beginner classes at any nearby centre or you can find many videos only to practice by yourself. In addition, as there are many group on social media where some people just voluntering to share their experience about swimming and try to teach that to beginners.

I would be really amazed if you let me give you company in this sport. As i also do not know how to swim. Therefore, if we start it together it will be really fun and we both can enjoy the learning journey.

I am waiting for your response with fingers off. Hope you like my ideology.

your lovingly,

Sandeep

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points: recommending a sport (swimming), explaining how to learn it, and suggesting you learn together. The tone is appropriate for an email to a friend. However, the response is slightly under the 150-word minimum requirement, which impacts the overall task completion. To improve, you should expand on your ideas, perhaps by describing why swimming is particularly good for your friend or by adding more detail about the 'learning journey' you propose. While the ideas are relevant, they are somewhat brief and could be developed further to ensure the task is fully satisfied.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The email is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your message. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'In addition' and 'Therefore' to link your ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by minor errors in sentence structure, and some transitions feel a bit mechanical. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your paragraphs are more balanced in length. The progression of ideas is clear, but the overall structure could be more sophisticated to improve the flow between sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate your message effectively, such as 'beginner classes', 'social media', and 'learning journey'. However, there are some awkward word choices and inaccuracies, such as 'fingers off' (likely meant 'fingers crossed') and 'ideology' (which is not the correct word for 'idea' or 'suggestion' in this context). These errors do not prevent understanding, but they do limit the precision of your writing. Focusing on learning common collocations and checking the exact meaning of words will help you improve your lexical range and accuracy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I hope your are doing well' (your/you are), 'I will suggest you swimming' (suggest swimming to you), and 'there are many group' (pluralization error). While these errors are frequent, they rarely impede communication. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement, plural forms, and basic sentence construction. Incorporating more complex structures, such as conditional sentences or relative clauses, with greater accuracy would help you achieve a higher band score.
