Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Roop,
I hope you are doing well. I got your message yesterday, and you want my suggestion to select an appropriate sport for you. According to me, football is the best option to follow up with. Because you have good stamina, as it has a lot of running, which is good for your health as well.
You should learn this from the best coach in my town. His name is Ared, and he provides training Monday to Friday at "Okotoks ground". If you finalize this decision then i would be more delighted as I want to join you as well. I also want to add one sport to my life too, but I hesitate to do it alone. If we did it together so it would be easy for us to cooperate, and we can discuss our strengths and weaknesses.
I hope you would like my idea, and I am waiting for your response desperately.
Best wishes
Gagandeep

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: recommending a sport, explaining how to learn it, and suggesting a joint activity. The tone is appropriate for an email to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, while you mention the coach and the location, adding a bit more detail about why this specific coach is good or what the training involves would have made the response more engaging and fully developed. Overall, you have met the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The email is logically organized with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'because', 'if', and 'as well' to link your ideas. However, the paragraphing is slightly underdeveloped; the body of the email could be split into two distinct paragraphs—one for the recommendation and learning details, and another for the suggestion to join together—to improve the flow. Some transitions, such as 'If we did it together so it would be easy', are slightly repetitive or mechanical in their construction.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using words like 'stamina', 'hesitate', and 'cooperate' correctly. The tone is natural and friendly. To reach a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more precise collocations or less common vocabulary. For example, instead of 'follow up with', you could use 'take up'. There are no significant spelling errors, and your word choices are generally accurate and appropriate for the context of a friendly email.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional sentences ('If we did it together...'). While the meaning is always clear, there are some grammatical slips, such as 'you want my suggestion to select' (should be 'I would like your suggestion on selecting') and 'If we did it together so it would be easy' (the 'so' is redundant here). Despite these minor errors, your control of grammar is generally good, and the errors do not impede communication at all.
