Student answer (Band 8.0)
Dear Nazira,
I hope this email finds you well. I heard that you are keen on taking up a new sport, and I have the perfect recommendation for you. Considering your desire to improve your overall health and fitness. I would suggest taking up swimming. it's a law impact sport that is suitable for all body types and fitness levels.
Learning to swim can be enjoyable and rewarding experience. There are several swimming pools in our town that offer beginner classes with qualified instructors. These classes will provide you with the fundamental skill and techniques needed to become a proficient swimmer.
Furthermore, I would like to propose that we learn this sport together. It would be a great way for us to stay active while also spending quality time together. We could set regular days to go for swimming practice and motivate each other to improve our swimming abilities.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this suggestion. Let's discuss the possibility of embarking on this new fitness journey together.
Best wishes,
Humaira Mukta

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.5
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly recommend swimming, explain how to learn it through local classes, and propose learning it together. The tone is appropriate for an email to a friend, and the purpose is clear throughout. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the task requirements. To reach a higher band, ensure that all sentences are complete; for example, 'Considering your desire to improve your overall health and fitness' is a sentence fragment that should be connected to the following main clause. Overall, the task is fully accomplished.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.5
The email is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a polite closing. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different points. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'There are', and 'These classes' are used to link ideas smoothly. The flow of the letter is natural and easy to follow. The progression of ideas is logical, moving from the recommendation to the practical steps and finally to the invitation to join. No significant issues with cohesion were noted.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.5
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for the context, such as 'proficient swimmer', 'embarking', and 'rewarding experience'. The word choice is generally accurate and natural. There is a minor error in 'law impact', which should be 'low impact'. Despite this, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly and with some precision. To improve further, try to incorporate more varied collocations or slightly more sophisticated phrasing to enhance the descriptive quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. However, there are a few grammatical slips. For instance, the sentence 'Considering your desire to improve your overall health and fitness.' is a fragment. Additionally, 'it's a law impact sport' contains a spelling error ('low' vs 'law') and 'enjoyable and rewarding experience' is missing an article ('an'). Despite these occasional errors, the majority of your sentences are error-free, and your meaning is never obscured. Your control over punctuation and sentence structure is generally strong.
