Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all three bullet points of the task: recommending a sport (cricket), explaining how to learn it (using an app and a trainer), and suggesting learning together. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and occasionally unclear. For instance, the mention of the friend's weight gain is slightly awkward in tone for a friendly email, and the explanation regarding the 'husband' and the 'application' is confusingly phrased. While the purpose of the email is clear, the content lacks the natural flow and depth expected for a higher band score. The tone is generally appropriate for an informal letter, but the lack of clarity in some sections prevents a higher rating.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into short paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite mechanical and sometimes inaccurate. For example, the transition 'There is another thing' is a bit clunky, and the connection between sentences is often abrupt. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the mention of 'i husband' without context. While the overall message is understandable, the lack of smooth transitions and the somewhat disjointed sentence structure limit the coherence of the piece. More varied linking words would improve the flow significantly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but shows limited range and several errors. There are spelling mistakes such as 'sprot' instead of 'sport', 'verity' instead of 'variety', and 'cab' instead of 'can'. Some word choices are unnatural, such as 'intake the knowledge' and 'gain your 30% weight'. While the student attempts to use specific terms like 'trainer' and 'application', the overall lexical control is inconsistent. To reach a higher band, the student needs to focus on accurate spelling and more natural collocations, avoiding direct translations that lead to awkward phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'I am so happy for you you finally want', 'i believe you have a sprit', and 'we can even learn both by the trainer'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas and incorrect capitalization of 'i'. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar, such as subject-verb agreement and article usage, indicates a need for more careful proofreading and a stronger grasp of sentence construction.
