Student answer (Band 6.5)

Hey Johan,

I am very delighted to write you about the sport which you are keen to learn.

I would say you should learn cricket as it is well known game in India. It is famous among the people of all ages here. If I talk about investment its not huge as you need not to buy expensive equipments .

There are so many academies which helps the youngsters to learn this game and charging very less. These institutes will boost your confidence by teaching you the rules for the game and simple techniques. Even this game can contribute in career prospectives as if you enjoy it you would start it in professional way with little practice.

You know what I am thinking , I will join the class along with you as this would help us to catch the skills easily. As we are a better team, can practice on weekends together. we would be having a lot of fun while learning and can relive our memories from college.

What do you think , I am eager to learn the game !

Love

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You recommended cricket, explained how to learn it through local academies, and proposed learning it together. The tone is appropriate for an informal email to a friend. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, though the development of the 'how to learn' section could be slightly more detailed to reach a higher band. Overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The email is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. You use paragraphing effectively to separate the introduction, the recommendation, and the suggestion to join together. Cohesive devices such as 'If I talk about', 'Even this game', and 'As we are' are used to link sentences. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with punctuation spacing (e.g., 'India. It' and 'think , I'). Improving the flow between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'keen', 'academies', and 'career prospectives'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'charging very less' (should be 'charging very little') and 'contribute in career prospectives' (should be 'contribute to career prospects'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the more sophisticated collocations or idiomatic expressions that would characterize a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I am very delighted to write you' (should be 'write to you'), 'it is well known game' (missing an article), and 'you need not to buy' (should be 'you do not need to buy'). Additionally, there are punctuation errors, specifically missing spaces after commas and periods. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score in this category.
