Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Frank,

I hope you are doing well. Here, I am writing to recommend you the new sport which suits you well as I found yourself very energetic and fit.

To begin with, the sport I suggest you is Cricket. This game demands highest level of fitness which you already maintained. Apart from this, it is completely omnipresent experience to be part of the play in which you do not have any clues which provide you to learn new sport.

You should firstly register yourself as a member in cricket board of Brampton where the modus operandi and fundamental rules of the game will be inculcated to you by coach.

However, this is a team sport of 11 players hence it procures opportunity to play together in a same team as a fellow player. Since I have been playing the matches from long time right now I am a captain thus I can even share my thoughts too.

I hope you will be find this sport interesting and make you delighted.

Yours faithfully,

Binay

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You recommended cricket, explained how to learn it by joining the Brampton cricket board, and suggested playing together. The tone is appropriate for an email to a friend, although the closing 'Yours faithfully' is typically reserved for formal letters where the recipient's name is unknown; 'Best wishes' or 'See you soon' would be more suitable here. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, meeting the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The email is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Apart from this', and 'However' to link your points. Paragraphing is used to separate the different requirements of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument. While some of the transitions are slightly mechanical, the overall structure is coherent and easy to follow throughout the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You attempt to use a wide range of vocabulary, such as 'omnipresent', 'modus operandi', and 'inculcated'. However, some of these choices are unnatural or used incorrectly in context. For example, 'omnipresent' means 'everywhere at once' and does not fit the description of a sport. 'Modus operandi' is also overly formal and usually refers to a criminal's method of operation. Stick to more natural collocations to improve clarity and precision, as these errors occasionally distract from your intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'recommend you the new sport' (should be 'recommend a new sport to you'), 'I suggest you is Cricket' (should be 'I suggest is cricket'), and 'playing the matches from long time' (should be 'for a long time'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions.
