Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mike,
How are you? It's been a long time to see you. I know you are a sport person and eager to learn new sports in your spare time. I suggest you to learn golf this time.
I am advising you to practise golf as it is very popular in the town and pretty interesting. I have seen many golf players playing it in the bar, also in the adventure park and obviously in the golf club.
If you want to know more about this sport, you can join nearest community center of the town as they have cheaper training course compared to private institutes. Moreover, They will not only guide you with all rules and regulations of the game but also provide an open golf sport field for practise at free of cost.
One more interesting thing is that I was also planning to learn this sport since last 2 years but I didn't get a chance due to my hectic schedule. So what if we can join together next week and get trained at the same time?
Let me know what you think about it.
Warm regards,
Arti

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly recommend golf, explain how to learn it via the community center, and propose learning it together. The tone is appropriate for an email to a friend. However, some ideas are slightly underdeveloped; for instance, the claim that golf is played in a 'bar' or 'adventure park' is logically unusual and slightly confusing, which detracts from the clarity of your recommendation. To reach a higher band, ensure your supporting details are realistic and logically sound to better convince the reader.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The email is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific requirement of the task. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'In addition' (implied), though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The paragraphing is sufficient, and the message is easy to follow throughout. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the connection between sentences is smoother, particularly when moving from the description of the sport to the practical advice about the community center.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'hectic schedule', 'regulations', and 'community center'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'sport person' (should be 'sporty person') and 'golf sport field' (simply 'golf course'). Additionally, 'It's been a long time to see you' is slightly unnatural; 'It's been a long time since I saw you' would be more idiomatic. Expanding your range to include more precise collocations would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the conditional 'If you want to know more...' and the compound structure 'They will not only guide you... but also provide...'. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'I suggest you to learn' (should be 'I suggest that you learn' or 'I suggest learning') and 'since last 2 years' (should be 'for the last 2 years'). While these errors are present, they do not impede communication. Focusing on verb patterns and preposition usage will help improve your accuracy.
