Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Isabella,

I hope you are doing well. It's been a while to meet with you. However, I have heard about your interest in learning a new sport. Moreover, I would like to give you a advice for that.

To begin with, since last couple of months , I have been learning a badminton in the town. I would love this game as it helps me to get relief from stress. So , I would like to give you recommendation for this game as it would be a good fit for you. Furthermore, you could also learn from the specialized coaching center in our town as they are offering classes on weekends. Even, we both can learn together on the weekends at my home. if you are interested about this sport then let me know as soon as possible. So, I can assist you with the further details. Lastly , let's make a plan to meet in the next month.

Bye, take care.

Lots of love,

Riddhi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the task. You recommend badminton, explain how to learn it through a coaching center, and suggest learning together. The tone is appropriate for an informal email to a friend. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented. To improve, you could expand slightly on the benefits of the sport or provide more specific details about the coaching center to fully develop the ideas, which would help move the response into a higher band. Overall, the task requirements are met clearly and effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'Lastly' to link your points. However, the paragraphing is somewhat limited; the body of the email is contained within a single block, which makes it feel a bit dense. Using separate paragraphs for the recommendation, the learning method, and the suggestion to meet would improve the visual structure and flow. Additionally, some transitions, such as 'Even, we both can learn', feel slightly mechanical or unnatural.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'specialized coaching center' and 'relief from stress'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'give you a advice' (should be 'give you some advice' or 'advise you') and 'learning a badminton' (the article 'a' is unnecessary here). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the variety and precision required for higher bands. Focusing on correct article usage and more natural collocations will enhance your lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'It's been a while to meet with you' (should be 'since we met'), 'I would love this game' (should be 'I love this game'), and 'if you are interested about' (should be 'interested in'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing before commas. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing your control over verb tenses and prepositions will help improve your accuracy.
