Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Anjali,
I hope you are doing well. I am so glad to know about your interest in learning a new sport. I have a very good recommendation for you.
Basketball is going to be the best game for you as you always wanted to be a basketball player. Moreover, it will help you to relax physically and you don't need to worry about physical activity anymore just because you work in a corporate setting and spend most of time sitting and working in your office.
So, there is a sports club named 'The Winners' in my city. They are very well-known for their way of coaching as their coaches are all gold medalist players. Furthermore, all of them are very fluent in English. Especially, the basketball coach is from the UK. The club provides flexible schedule which will work for you. You can join the club by visiting their website. To learn the sport, you can take regular sessions or the sessions as per your convenience.
Actually, I have an amazing idea for both of us. I have started working in the mornings and have some free time in the evenings. Why don't we join the club together and learn the sport. I think we will learn quickly this way and also spend some time together. Let me know what do you think.
I will wait for your response and I hope to see you soon.
Kind Regards,
HK.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You recommended basketball, explained how to join the club 'The Winners' via their website, and proposed learning it together. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the ideas are well-developed and relevant. The response is clearly structured, and the purpose of the email is evident from the beginning. You have fully satisfied the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The email is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'Actually' to connect your thoughts. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions could be slightly more natural to reach a higher band. Overall, the progression of ideas is logical and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary suitable for a semi-formal or informal email. Phrases like 'corporate setting', 'flexible schedule', and 'as per your convenience' are used effectively. There are no significant errors in word choice that impede communication. To improve further, you could incorporate more varied collocations or idiomatic expressions to sound more natural, but your current range is sufficient for the task requirements.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most of your sentences are error-free, and your control over punctuation is generally good. There is a minor error in the question structure: 'Let me know what do you think' should be 'Let me know what you think'. Additionally, 'spend most of time' should be 'spend most of my time'. These are minor slips that do not hinder understanding, and your overall grammatical accuracy is strong.
