Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Shubham,

I hope you are doing good. I am writing to let you know that in our hometown , a new cricket stadium has been constructed which i think is great move for the beginners who just want to make their career in this field. I thought you should take part in this sport because it is basically the game like baseball which you played in your hometown .

However, the most surprising thing is that the coaching staff which is hired by city is basically the english speaker which will help a lot to lean it easily without any language barrier.

Another thing is that after so long , i am also thinking about to join any club related outdoor game so i will join with you . I have been playing cricket since childhood which means my experience will also help you to learn quickly . I hope you will understand.

Regards

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all three bullet points of the task. You successfully recommend cricket, explain how to learn it through the new stadium and coaching staff, and suggest learning it together. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of how to learn the sport focuses more on the availability of English-speaking coaches rather than the process of learning the sport itself. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific details about the training process or the benefits of the sport to fully develop your ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'However' and 'Another thing is that' to transition between points. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'the most surprising thing is that the coaching staff which is hired by city is basically the english speaker'. The use of referencing is sometimes mechanical, and the overall progression could be smoother with more varied linking words to connect your sentences more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'coaching staff' and 'hometown'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'great move for the beginners' (should be 'a great opportunity') and 'join any club related outdoor game' (should be 'join an outdoor sports club'). There is limited use of less common or idiomatic language, which restricts the score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'the coaching staff which is hired by city is basically the english speaker' (missing articles and incorrect noun usage) and 'thinking about to join' (incorrect verb pattern). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas. These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points. Increasing your control over articles and verb forms will improve your score.
