Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: it recommends football, explains how to join a club, and suggests learning together. The tone is appropriate for an email to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of how to learn the sport is quite brief, focusing mostly on finding a club rather than the process of learning the sport itself. While the task requirements are met, the ideas could be expanded with more detail to provide a more engaging and helpful response. The structure is clear, and the purpose of the email is immediately apparent to the reader.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The email is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Also', 'There are', and 'Nowadays', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, although the connection between the opening and the body could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the recommendation, the practical advice, and the personal suggestion. Overall, the flow of information is logical, and the message is easy to follow, meeting the requirements for a coherent response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their message clearly. There are some attempts at using less common phrases, such as 'great physique' and 'unnecessary spendings'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'joint football club' (should be 'join a football club') and 'you are regularly goes to gym' (should be 'you regularly go to the gym'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precision in word usage and a better grasp of common English collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'you're trying to something new' (missing 'do'), 'you are regularly goes to gym' (incorrect verb form), and 'It will saves your unnecessary spendings' (incorrect verb conjugation). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article errors, such as 'around you area' (should be 'your area'). While these errors are frequent, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of the message. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of modal verbs.
