Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Virat,

Hey, I hope you are doing great! How are you and your family? It's been a long seeing you. I am happing that you are planning to expand your skill by learning new sport.

To begin with, I recently read a sports magazine 'Sports Celebs' , in which there is an information and achievements of famous sports personality. The magazine also tells about the top leading sports and one of them is 'Football'. I know you since childhood and you are biggest fan of Lionel Messi, so, I think you have a passion of football. This sport not only helps you to keep physically fit but also assist in building your career in terms of team work, time management and collaboration.

As you now summer is almost there, many people are joining summer camps and sports club in the community center. Why don't we accompany each other for football club? I am also planning to join any sports activity , this summer.

Can't wait to play together. Let me know are you up with this idea.

Regards,

Anushaka Sharma

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You recommended football, explained how to learn it by joining a summer camp or community center, and suggested learning it together. The tone is appropriate for an email to a friend, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, you could have provided more specific details about the summer camp or the benefits of playing football together to add depth to your response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The email is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with' and 'As you now', although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is smooth, moving from the greeting to the recommendation, then the plan, and finally the closing. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that referencing (e.g., 'this idea') is always clear and precise.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, such as 'collaboration', 'personality', and 'physically fit'. However, there are some noticeable errors in word choice and form, such as 'I am happing' (should be 'happy') and 'there is an information' (information is uncountable). Additionally, 'I know you since childhood' should be 'I have known you since childhood'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precision in your word usage and a better grasp of collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips throughout the text. For example, 'It's been a long seeing you' should be 'It's been a long time since I saw you'. You also have issues with article usage ('the' biggest fan) and verb tense consistency. While these errors are frequent, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct tense usage will help you achieve a higher score.
