Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Rahul,

I hope you are in best of your health. From our previous conversation I got to know how you are interesting in learning a new sport. I believe badminton is the best physical activity that you can start with.

We have some great badminton facilities in our locality. Badminton will not only help you with physical activity but also will give you a social circle given that you are already a people's person. The best part about badminton is that it is for any age group and it is scientifically proven that badminton increases life expectancy by at least 4 years.

Just 1 km from your house, there is a 10 court badminton facility, Happy Model. Along with badminton equipment they also have world class coaches who train between 8AM-10PM from Monday to Saturday every week.

If you want we can join the academy together, as it is my childhood dream to learning badminton and with you alongside will keep both of us motivated.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours truly,

Siddharth

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You recommended badminton, provided clear details on how to learn it (mentioning the local facility and coaching availability), and proposed learning it together. The tone is appropriate for an email to a friend, and the purpose is clear throughout. The ideas are well-developed and relevant, providing a logical flow that satisfies the requirements of the task. To reach a higher band, ensure that all minor grammatical slips do not distract from the clarity of your suggestions.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The email is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the request, which helps the reader follow your advice easily. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Along with' and 'If you want', to link your thoughts. However, the transition between the benefits of badminton and the specific facility details could be smoother. The use of paragraphing is appropriate for an informal email, and the overall structure is coherent and easy to navigate.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task. Phrases like 'people's person' and 'life expectancy' are used effectively. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'in best of your health' (should be 'in the best of health') and 'you are interesting in' (should be 'you are interested in'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the vocabulary from being considered flexible or sophisticated. Expanding your range of collocations would help improve this score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'it is my childhood dream to learning badminton' (should be 'to learn') and 'with you alongside will keep' (should be 'having you alongside will keep'). These errors are noticeable but do not cause confusion. To improve, focus on verb forms and subject-verb agreement. While you attempt complex structures, the accuracy needs to be more consistent to reach the higher bands.
