Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear John,
I hope you're doing well. I'm writing this letter to suggest you the type of new sport that would be beneficial for your health and is available in the new sports club in our town.
We've studied together in our university, but ever since you came to this town, I believe you are finding it difficult to keep your body healthy, so I'd to advise you to join squash club, as it will keep you both physically and mentally fit. These kind of sports require agility and brainstorming and I'm sure you are made for squash.
As you're new to this town, I can help you in finding the top-notch sports clubs who're offering best services. There's a club which is stone's throw away from your apartment is popular for winning all competitions and tournaments as they offers the best coaching. Moreover, one of the highlights of the town is the sports gym offering number of different sports who's owner is Virat Kohli, has helped alot of players excel in national level competition.
Since childhood I wanted to learn squash and I believe this is the write time to learn it. Additionally, I would get more time to spend with you like we used to enjoy our fun rides at university. I would like to join with you at squash club. I hope you stay fit as fiddle. And hope to see you soon.
Yours faithfully
Raj

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You recommended squash, explained how to learn it by referencing local clubs and coaching, and clearly suggested learning it together. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose is clear throughout. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are fully developed; for instance, while you mention a club near the apartment, providing a bit more detail on the specific process of joining or the initial steps for a beginner would strengthen the response. Overall, the task is fully covered.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The email is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Additionally', and 'Since childhood' to link ideas. However, the progression between sentences is occasionally slightly mechanical. The paragraphing is generally appropriate, though the transition between the recommendation and the logistics of the club could be smoother. Referencing is mostly clear, although the use of 'who's' instead of 'whose' in the second paragraph creates a minor disruption in flow. Overall, the message is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, including phrases like 'top-notch', 'stone's throw away', and 'fit as a fiddle'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'suggest you the type' (should be 'suggest a sport to you') and 'write time' (a spelling error for 'right'). While you attempt some idiomatic language, there are occasional inaccuracies that slightly affect the precision of your expression. Expanding your range of collocations and ensuring correct word forms will help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'I'd to advise' (missing 'like'), 'These kind of sports' (should be 'This kind' or 'These kinds'), and 'who's owner' (should be 'whose owner'). Additionally, there are some punctuation and article errors, such as 'join squash club' (missing 'the'). Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the letter, and the mistakes do not significantly impede communication.
