Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Mathew,

I hope you are doing well. I am thrilled to know about that you have decided to learn a new sports. As you know i am keenly intrested in playing supports .I think badminton would be a great choice for you.

You Can join the badminton club which is located on Bank street near face 4.That would be great choice for you because the fees is very pocket friendly in that club and they also provide free of cost equipments such as rackets gloves and there is no need to pay extra for a coach .

Actually, I have also wanted to learn a badminton from a long time. Why dont we join together and spend our quality of time together to learn badminton and this will also help to strengthen our bonds.

I look forward to hearing from you.I hope we can start soon.

Best Wishes,

Sayam

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: recommending a sport (badminton), explaining how to learn it (joining a club), and suggesting learning it together. The tone is appropriate for an email to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. To reach a higher band, you could provide more descriptive detail about why badminton is a good fit for your friend or elaborate on the benefits of the club beyond just the cost. The response is clear and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The email is logically organized with a clear opening, body, and closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'As you know' and 'Actually' to transition between ideas. However, paragraphing is inconsistent; the body of the email is somewhat clumped, and the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition'). While the progression of ideas is easy to follow, the use of cohesive devices is occasionally mechanical rather than natural.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, such as 'keenly interested', 'pocket friendly', and 'strengthen our bonds'. There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'supports' instead of 'sports', 'intrested' (spelling), and 'a badminton' (incorrect article usage). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more attention to collocations and spelling to reach a higher band. You have successfully used some less common phrases, but accuracy remains an area for improvement.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, including punctuation errors (missing spaces after periods), capitalization issues ('Bank street'), and article misuse ('the fees is' should be 'the fees are'). While you attempt complex sentences, such as 'Why dont we join together and spend our quality of time together to learn badminton and this will also help to strengthen our bonds', the control over these structures is inconsistent. The errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your message.
