Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Friend,
I am writing this letter to suggest a sport that would be beneficial for you. After digging deep down a swimming sport came to my mind as it not only tone your body but also helpful to calm down your body.
Furthermore, there is a new swimming club opens in our town close by your house as it requires less travelling and the instructor is my best friend which is more beneficial as it makes the class more comfortable and friendly. Moreover, this swimming club has sauna and hot water pool as well for releasing the mind and body tension.
However, I also want to take part in sport and I think this would beneficial for me as well. It will reduce my body weight and relax my body muscles. We both will take part and also spent quality time together as well. Please let me know how you think about this sport and get back to me with your recommendation.
Yours Friend,
Jas

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all three bullet points of the task: recommending a sport (swimming), explaining how to learn it (joining a club with an instructor), and suggesting learning it together. The tone is appropriate for an email to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of how to learn the sport is brief, focusing more on the club's amenities than the learning process itself. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detail on the learning aspect, such as mentioning beginner classes or the structure of the training sessions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The email is organized into logical paragraphs, each focusing on a specific point. The use of cohesive devices like 'Furthermore', 'Moreover', and 'However' helps to connect ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from the recommendation to the logistics and finally the proposal to join together. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking phrases to make the connections between sentences feel more natural and less repetitive.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your message clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific vocabulary such as 'instructor', 'sauna', and 'body muscles'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'digging deep down' (which is an idiom used incorrectly here) and 'swimming sport' (which should simply be 'swimming'). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding informal or misused idiomatic expressions. The range is sufficient for a General Training task but lacks the sophistication required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'a new swimming club opens' (should be 'has opened' or 'is opening'), 'which is more beneficial as it makes' (a bit repetitive), and 'how you think about this sport' (should be 'what you think'). Subject-verb agreement and verb tense consistency are areas that need attention. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to limit your score. Focus on proofreading for basic tense and agreement errors.
