Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear,
Hope you are doing well. I am writing to reply your email about inquiry of a new sport that you are interesting to learn. I have had a small research about sports that suits individual.
I think you should learn to paly football because football is a excellent sport for people with good physique. As you have nice physical capability and motivation, football could be an excellent game for you.
To learn football you just need a football as a mandatory equipment and an open field to practice. The nearest open stadium in your area could be a perfect place to start. You can start as a midfielder who basically plays in the whole field and scores goals for the team. If that does not works for you, you can try other positions like goalkeeper and striker. It will best if you start playing with a team. I would suggest you get yourself admitted in the beginners football training in our area.
You will delightful to hear that, I am also learning the game as it was my hobby since I started watching FIFA on tv. On your convenience we can practice football together at the open stadium in our area. I am playing as a left winger. I will be happy show you the tactics. Write me back about what you think about the idea. Will be waiting for your reply.
Yours,
Aden.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You recommended football, explained how to learn it by suggesting local training and practice, and proposed that you both learn together. The tone is appropriate for an email to a friend, and the purpose is clear throughout. To reach a higher band, ensure you expand slightly more on the 'how to learn' section; for instance, you could mention specific drills or resources beyond just 'getting admitted' to a training group. Overall, the response is well-focused and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The email is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use some cohesive devices like 'To learn football', 'If that does not work', and 'On your convenience' to link your thoughts. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'I am writing to reply your email about inquiry', which is a bit clunky. Improving the flow between sentences by using a wider variety of linking words would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'mandatory equipment', 'physical capability', and 'tactics'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'I have had a small research' (should be 'done some research'), 'you are interesting to learn' (should be 'interested in learning'), and 'You will delightful to hear' (should be 'You will be delighted'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do highlight a need for more precise control over word forms and common English collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'I am writing to reply your email' (missing 'to'), 'football is a excellent sport' (should be 'an'), 'If that does not works' (should be 'work'), and 'I will be happy show you' (should be 'happy to show'). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely cause confusion for the reader. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions, as these are the most frequent sources of your errors.
