Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Ana,
I hope you're doing well. I am writing in reply to your letter about my advice on learning a new sport. I'd be glad to tell you that in my town a number of the best sports clubs are available.
The one game which I'd suggest to you is squash because it requires agility and strong mind. You are a health freak and I'm dead sure you're going to like this sport. Moreover, it will boost your mental abilities and increase concentration. Additionally, it will keep your body healthy.
Furthermore, to learn this game, I'd recommend you to keep a to-do list. Firstly, learn about the sport, for example, searching on YouTube and other social media platforms. Secondly, find a sports club or a coach who can teach you. I can recommend some of the best gaming clubs and squash coaches to you. Thirdly, the equipments you require for this game.
It's been ages since I've met you, so I was thinking about joining a club and learning squash with you. Also, this game requires two players and I'm sure it will become easier by learning it together. I'm looking forward for your reply.
Yours faithful
Raj

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly recommend squash, provide a logical step-by-step guide on how to learn it, and propose learning it together. The tone is appropriate for an informal email to a friend. The ideas are well-developed, particularly the advice on how to get started, which provides practical steps like using YouTube and finding a coach. The purpose of the email is clear from the beginning, and the closing is consistent with the requested format. To reach a higher band, ensure that all advice is fully integrated into the narrative flow rather than listed as a series of instructions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The email is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Additionally', 'Furthermore', and 'Firstly/Secondly/Thirdly' to link your points. While the use of 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Thirdly' is functional, it can feel slightly mechanical. Try to vary your transitions to make the flow feel more natural and less like a list. Overall, the progression of ideas is smooth, and the referencing is clear throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary suitable for an informal letter, such as 'agility', 'mental abilities', and 'health freak'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'gaming clubs' (which usually refers to video games rather than sports clubs) and 'the equipments' (equipment is an uncountable noun and should not be pluralized). Despite these minor slips, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly and effectively. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure you are familiar with the countability of common nouns.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'I'd be glad to tell you' (a more natural phrasing would be 'I'm glad to suggest'), 'I'm looking forward for your reply' (the correct preposition is 'to'), and 'Yours faithful' (should be 'Yours faithfully'). However, these errors do not impede communication. You show good control over tense usage, particularly when discussing future plans and past experiences. To move to a higher band, focus on correcting minor prepositional errors and ensuring consistent subject-verb agreement.
