Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all three bullet points: recommending a sport (hockey), explaining how to learn it, and suggesting you learn it together. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. The description of hockey is slightly confusing, as the rules mentioned (running from one place to another placing a bowl) do not accurately reflect the sport. While the tone is appropriate for an email to a friend, the content lacks the necessary detail to fully engage the reader. The purpose of the email is clear, but the explanation of how to learn the sport is quite brief and relies on the writer's personal experience rather than providing a structured plan.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The email is organised into two paragraphs, which is a reasonable structure. However, the logical flow between sentences is often disjointed. For example, the transition from discussing hockey to the suggestion of playing together is abrupt. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In addition to', but they are sometimes used incorrectly or in a way that feels mechanical. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between the writer's childhood experience and the current plan is a bit muddled. Paragraphing is present but could be more effectively used to separate the distinct points of the task.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'friends circule' instead of 'circle of friends' and 'make aways from cell phone' instead of 'stay away from'. The word choice is often repetitive and basic. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of control over collocations and the presence of spelling errors (e.g., 'visuan', 'energeatic') limit the score. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more natural collocations and ensuring that your vocabulary is used accurately in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('I hope this note find you well'), missing articles, and incorrect punctuation. Many sentences are run-on or lack proper conjunctions, such as 'I do have experience playing hockey in childhood so i can teach you how to play hockey, so this weekend we can plan playing together'. The frequent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction suggest that the writer struggles with maintaining accuracy when attempting more complex thoughts.
