You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear ....................................,

Student answer (Band 7.5)

Dear Fenil,

I hope you are doing amazing. It's been long since we have talked.

I'm completely aware that you love to play something which involves the least amount of intellect. Keeping that in mind, I would suggest you to learn badminton.

There are so many place in our town which have excellent coach who can teach us how to play badminton. For instance, the Le Den Badminton Academy near Brooklyn street is very near to your home and hence it would be very accessible to go there.

This place is not only near to your home but also is apparently within walking distance from my office. I was planning to join you after my office hours so that we can become badminton buddies. Moreover, the coach has a class from 5:45 pm and your university classes ends usually at 5:30 pm so the timing is perfect for both of us.

I'm so excited to play and learn this sport with you. See you soon.

Best Regards,

Alex

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You recommended badminton, explained how to learn it by mentioning a local academy, and suggested learning it together. The tone is appropriate for an email to a friend, being informal and friendly. The ideas are relevant and clearly developed, meeting the requirements of the task effectively. The response is well-focused and maintains a consistent perspective throughout, which is appropriate for a General Training Task 1 letter.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0

The email is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'For instance', 'not only... but also', and 'moreover' to link your sentences and ideas. The progression of ideas is smooth, moving from the recommendation to the practical details of learning and finally to the suggestion of joining together. The use of paragraphing is sufficient and appropriate for this type of correspondence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'accessible', 'badminton buddies', and 'intellect' are used appropriately. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'There are so many place' (should be 'places') and 'your university classes ends' (should be 'end'). While these do not impede communication, they prevent the vocabulary from reaching a higher band. Expanding your range to include more precise collocations would further improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are accurate, there are some grammatical slips, such as 'It's been long since we have talked' (should be 'It's been a long time since we talked') and 'your university classes ends' (subject-verb agreement error). Additionally, 'I would suggest you to learn' is slightly unnatural; 'I would suggest that you learn' or 'I suggest you take up' would be better. Despite these errors, the meaning is always clear, and the grammar does not hinder the flow of the letter.
