Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Kemi,
I hope this letter finds you well. I feel so glad to welcome you once more to our great town. I want to use this medium to write to you regarding you advice on learning new sport around our community.
For the new sport, i'ld like to suggest skipping for the start to fit first this is because it is a low intensity exercise that can be done and easily maintained on a regular basics. Then will introduce you to the tennis club where i also belong.
As for the learning process, there you will learn the theoretical understanding and then practical application of the sport.
you will be thought by a guarding on how to handle baton in playing tennis while training with other team mates. Learning to play will be both challenging and rewarding.
The tennis practice is usually held every weekends through out the year from 7 am to 11.30 am in the morning, you don't have to worry about the transportation to the venue, i'll come to pick you up with my car while as well.
I look forward to having more detailed discussion about the sport.
Yours faithfully,
Fidel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points of the task. You recommended tennis, explained the learning process (theoretical and practical application), and suggested learning together by offering to drive your friend to the club. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is slightly uneven; for instance, the mention of 'skipping' at the start is confusing as it contradicts the subsequent focus on tennis. To improve, ensure your ideas are consistent throughout the response to avoid confusing the reader.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'As for the learning process' and 'Then', to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing and some mechanical transitions. The use of referencing is generally clear, but some sentences feel disjointed. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the transition between sentences is smoother and more natural.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'theoretical understanding', 'practical application', and 'challenging and rewarding'. There are some noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'regular basics' (should be 'regular basis') and 'thought by a guarding' (should be 'taught by a coach/instructor'). Additionally, 'handle baton' is incorrect in the context of tennis, as tennis players use rackets. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they limit the precision of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement, incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'you will be thought' instead of 'taught'), and punctuation errors. The use of 'i'ld' and 'i'll' is informal, which is acceptable for an email, but the lack of capitalization for 'I' is a recurring error. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and spelling.
