Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly recommend swimming, explain how to learn it by attending local academies, and propose learning together. The tone is appropriate for an email to a friend. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, providing specific benefits of swimming such as muscle strength and lung capacity. To reach a higher band, ensure that all explanations are fully integrated; for instance, the transition between the benefits of swimming and the suggestion to attend classes could be smoother to ensure a more cohesive flow of ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The email is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use cohesive devices such as 'Additionally,' 'Also,' and 'Therefore' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing could be improved for better flow. For example, the second paragraph is quite dense; splitting it or using more varied linking phrases would enhance the overall structure. Referencing is generally clear, and the progression of ideas from the recommendation to the practical suggestion of joining together is logical and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'life-saving skill,' 'aquatic exercises,' and 'body posture' are used effectively. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'take participate' (should be 'participate') and 'get refreshment' (should be 'feel refreshed'). While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, incorporating more sophisticated collocations or idiomatic expressions would help elevate the response. The word choice is generally precise enough to avoid any confusion for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'swimming will be helpful to you for improving strength of back' (missing articles) and 'there are plenty of swimming academies are teaching' (incorrect verb structure). Additionally, 'it will enhancing' is a tense error. Despite these slips, the errors do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, as well as ensuring consistent verb forms in complex sentences.
