Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Vivek,

Hope this letter finds you in great health. I am writing this letter to offer you my advice about learning a new sport. Although, we both live in the same town and speak English, it would have been a best case if we could have met and discuss this.

Firstly, I recommend you to try learning cricket. I am well aware of your fitness and agility, thereby, making cricket the most suitable sport for you to learn and practice. Furthermore, I have seen you watching cricket videos on internet with great interest too.

Coming to the training part, you can easily get yourself registered to the local cricket academy. They have the best coaches that had played international cricket for quite so long. They can teach you every minute details required to excel in this sport. Additionally, I can also connect you to one of my friend who is already playing league matches for our state. That will certainly provide you an extra edge.

Moreover, I suggest if we both can join the cricket academy together, we both can help each other learn cricket easily. We can practice either at your lawn or in my backyard, whatever seems fine to you.

Hope you would like my advice and the suggestion to learn cricket together. Looking forward to hear from you soon.

Yours lovingly,

Gaurav

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You recommended cricket, explained how to learn it through a local academy and personal connections, and suggested learning it together. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose of the email is clear throughout. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the task requirements. To reach a higher band, ensure that all advice is fully integrated; for example, you could have elaborated slightly more on the specific benefits of learning together to further extend your ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The email is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each point, and a closing. You use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', 'Coming to', and 'Moreover' to guide the reader through your points. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate distinct ideas. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions could be more natural; for instance, the opening sentence about meeting in person is slightly disconnected from the main purpose of the email. Overall, the structure is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary suitable for this task, such as 'agility', 'registered', and 'excel'. You use collocations like 'great interest' and 'extra edge' effectively. There are a few minor inaccuracies, such as 'every minute details' (should be 'every minute detail') and 'one of my friend' (should be 'one of my friends'). These errors do not impede communication. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated or idiomatic expressions to enhance the naturalness of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'it would have been a best case' (should be 'it would have been better') and 'coaches that had played' (should be 'coaches who have played'). Additionally, 'Looking forward to hear' should be 'Looking forward to hearing'. Despite these occasional errors, the majority of your sentences are error-free, and the meaning is always clear. You have good control over punctuation and sentence construction, which supports the overall readability of your email.
