Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Maleeha,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing this to help and guide you about learning a new sport.
Cricket is one of the famous game in my town. I advice you to learn cricket. It is a very interesting game in which there are total 11 players and out of 11, some are good at bating and others at bowling. In addition, this game is based on 12 overs and in one over, there are total 6 balls. This game has some rules which we have to follow like 1 score on wide ball, wicket and catch out. In bowling, only one over is played by one cricketer at a time. As this game is not usually play in your country so you can learn here easily.
There are multiple sports training centers in my area where you can learn the cricket. They have well organized play ground according to the game criteria. Not only this but they have highly skilled and professional coaches for practicing. I hope you will enjoy learning cricket there.
I will also join you in this learning session. As you are new in town, you are not familiar with the surroundings. We will practice it together so we can learn and enjoy together.
Please feel free to ask me any further information is require.
Yours Sincerely,
Maha.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You recommended cricket, explained how to learn it through local training centers, and suggested learning it together. The tone is appropriate for an email to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive; for instance, the explanation of cricket rules is quite detailed but does not necessarily help the friend understand how to 'learn' the sport. To improve, focus more on the process of learning rather than describing the mechanics of the game itself. Overall, the task requirements are fully met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The email is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Not only this', and 'As' to link your ideas. While the progression is clear, some transitions feel a bit mechanical. To reach a higher band, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the flow between sentences is more natural. The use of paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure supports the reader's understanding of your message.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'training centers', 'professional coaches', and 'cricket'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'famous game' (should be 'popular sport') and 'play ground' (should be 'pitch' or 'field'). Additionally, you use 'advice' as a verb, but the correct verb form is 'advise'. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise collocations would enhance the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'Cricket is one of the famous game' (should be 'one of the most popular sports'), 'not usually play' (should be 'not usually played'), and 'information is require' (should be 'information is required'). These errors are frequent but do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice constructions.
