Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Rahul,
Hope you are doing well. I felt good after hearing from you after a long time.
I wanted to share my experience and my excitement with you, as I recently sarted playing Tennis and the timing of your email couldn't be much better especially when you mentioned about learning a new sport.
It all started when I moved to this new comunity where I made a couple of new friends who are into sports and they play Tennis regularly in our comunity sports center. At first I used to go there and just watch them play but after few days I started to gain interest in playing and my friends also encouraged me to learn this game.
I think this new sport suits you better than me considering your fitness levels and your daily routine as it invovles more physical activity. You should consider learning this sport.
At begining phase of learning this sport you could try basic movements to gain confidence and then it won't be so hard for you to master this sport.
Actually,I think we both can start learning tennis together if we could adjust our timings.
let me know what are your thoughts regarding this, Convey my regards to your parents and have a good week.
Regards,
Mike.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have fully addressed all bullet points required by the prompt in a natural and friendly tone. You successfully recommended a new sport by writing, 'I recently started playing Tennis... I think this new sport suits you better than me'. You explained how your friend could learn it by noting, 'At beginning phase of learning this sport you could try basic movements'. Furthermore, you effectively suggested that you both learn together, stating, 'I think we both can start learning tennis together if we could adjust our timings.' The purpose of the email is clear, and the tone is completely appropriate for writing to an English-speaking friend. Your ideas are fully developed and support the requirements of a General Training Task 1 response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
Your email flows logically and guides the reader smoothly from your opening greetings to your news about tennis, the recommendation, and finally the suggestion to learn together. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate your personal news, the background story, your advice, and your closing thoughts. You make good use of cohesive devices and referencing, such as 'It all started when...' and 'At first I used to go there...'. While some transitions could be polished further, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task with some attempts at less common items, such as 'fitness levels', 'daily routine', and 'basic movements'. However, there are a few spelling errors, including 'sarted' (started), 'comunity' (community), 'invovles' (involves), and 'At begining' (At the beginning). These lexical slips do not impede communication, as the meaning remains completely clear, but they prevent the vocabulary score from reaching a higher band. Overall, your word choice effectively conveys your message in a friendly style.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You display a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as the conditional structure 'if we could adjust our timings' and relative clauses like 'who are into sports'. There are several grammatical and punctuation errors present, including missing articles ('At beginning phase' instead of 'At the beginning phase') and minor punctuation issues such as missing a capital letter in 'let me know'. Nevertheless, the majority of your simple sentences are error-free, and your complex structures are mostly accurate, meaning these occasional errors rarely impede overall communication.
