Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response successfully covers all the bullet points outlined in the task instructions. You clearly recommended tennis as a suitable sport, explaining that it helps with reducing weight, continuous body movement, and muscle building. You also effectively explained how your friend could learn this sport by mentioning the tennis sports center located on Oakley Street in Smiths Falls, noting that it is within walking distance and has certified coaches. Finally, you successfully suggested that you both learn the sport together, noting 'we will start this together if you are interesting.' The tone is appropriately friendly and informal for a General Training letter to a friend, and all parts of the prompt are fully addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter maintains a clear and logical progression throughout, transitioning smoothly from greeting and pleasantries to the recommendation, learning details, and the suggestion to join together. Paragraphing is used to separate different ideas, although the main body is concentrated in a couple of longer paragraphs. Cohesive devices such as 'as well as', 'then', and 'if' are used to connect clauses, though some sentences are overly long and run-on, such as 'I got your letter yesterday , In your letter you were asking me...'. Punctuation control in linking clauses needs greater care, but overall cohesion is adequate and the message is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, successfully communicating ideas about fitness and sports. You attempted some less common or topic-specific items such as 'utilizing your time', 'continuously moving', and 'certified coaches'. However, there are some word choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'learning a new sport which is great i am really happy that you are utilizing your time in sport' and the spelling error 'certifuied'. The phrase 'if you are interesting' should be 'if you are interested'. The range is sufficient for the task, but errors in word form and spelling prevent it from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The text contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ability to express multi-clause ideas. However, there are frequent run-on sentences and comma splices, such as 'I got your letter yesterday , In your letter you were asking me...' and '...then Tennis would be great ,In this sport we have to continuously moving...'. There are also grammatical inaccuracies like 'we have to continuously moving' (should be 'continuously move') and 'if you are interesting'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, their frequency prevents the attainment of a Band 7.
