Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The candidate successfully covers all the bullet points in the prompt. You recommend a sport (cricket), explain how your friend can learn it by mentioning the local 'RN cricket sport club' with an international coach and affordable fees, and suggest that you both learn it together ('i also want to join this club with you'). The tone is appropriately informal and friendly for an email to a peer. However, some ideas are a bit basic and lack full extension, placing this response comfortably at Band 6.0. The candidate covers all requirements of the task, but further elaboration on why the sport is particularly suited for the friend would push the score higher.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The email has a clear overall arrangement and is divided into logical paragraphs that separate the introduction, the details of the club, and the joint plan. Cohesive devices such as 'Accordingly', 'Moreover', and 'Since the last month' are used to connect ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical or awkward, such as starting consecutive sentences with 'Moreover'. Referencing is generally clear, and the opening and closing salutations appropriately frame the letter. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the message, resulting in a cohesive flow that meets the Band 6 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The candidate demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'popular', 'international cricket player', and 'state-level competition'. However, there are noticeable word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'recommend you to learn it' instead of 'recommend that you learn it', 'the academy which name is', and 'worthable' instead of 'worthwhile'. Additionally, capitalization errors like 'state- level' occur. Despite these slips, the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the message clearly, fitting the Band 6 profile.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'Since the last month, i am thinking about to learn this sport.' There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, including tense misuse ('i am thinking' instead of 'I have been thinking'), missing articles ('The name of sport'), and incorrect verb complementation ('easy to learn this skill' where the subject is the faculty). Punctuation and capitalization are occasionally flawed (e.g., lowercase 'i'). While these errors are noticeable and require some re-reading, they rarely impede overall communication, placing this submission at a solid Band 5.5.
