Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear kiana,
I hope this email finds you well!
I heard that you looking for learning new sport, which think really exciting. According to me, since you already having hands on the sport games like baseball and batminton, i would highly suggest you to go with Tennis. Its very much similar to batminton, rules and tools could be different. You can learn this sport at our local community hall, every monday, wednesday and friday at 12pm to 2pm. There is experienced coach who will help you as well. Now that you are learning this sport, im also feeling to join it with you, and we both learn this together.
There are 3 groups, for beginners, intermediate and advance, but first coach put us into one-on-one session to see which group we are suitable in. I will call tomorrow and book 2 in person session for ua. I am really very excited, that right after college we can go there.
I hope to see you soon.
Regards,
Nidhi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response successfully covers all the bullet points outlined in the task prompt. First, you clearly recommend Tennis as a suitable sport for your friend to learn, noting its similarities to badminton. Second, you provide clear details on how she can learn this sport by mentioning the local community hall schedule, the days and times, and the presence of an experienced coach. Third, you successfully suggest that you both learn the sport together, noting that you will book in-person sessions so you can go right after college. The tone is informal and friendly, perfectly suited for an email to a friend. The purpose of the letter is fully achieved throughout the text, and ideas are extended appropriately, earning a solid band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The email has a clear and logical progression overall. You begin with a friendly greeting, move into the recommendation and details, and conclude with the next steps and a warm sign-off. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as 'According to me', 'since', and 'Now that'. However, paragraphing is somewhat cramped, with the main body block containing several different ideas lumped together. Better division into separate paragraphs—such as separating the recommendation from the scheduling and booking details—would improve the overall visual and logical organisation. Nevertheless, the relationships between ideas remain clear throughout, ensuring smooth communication with the reader.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for a general email task, successfully attempting less common items and topical phrases such as 'hands on', 'community hall', 'one-on-one session', and 'beginners, intermediate and advance'. However, there are some noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices, such as 'sport games' instead of 'racquet sports' or 'sport', 'advance' instead of 'advanced', and 'in person session' instead of 'in-person sessions'. Spelling and word formation errors occasionally surface, but they do not impede communication. With greater precision in word forms and collocations, a higher band score would be attainable.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
Your writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a reasonable command of grammar. You successfully use subordinate clauses, such as in 'since you already having hands on... i would highly suggest' and 'Now that you are learning this sport, im also feeling to join it'. However, there are several grammatical errors and punctuation issues present, including missing auxiliary verbs ('you looking', 'coach put'), missing articles ('an experienced coach'), incorrect verb forms ('having hands on'), and inconsistent capitalization (e.g., 'i', 'im', 'monday'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher rating for this criterion.
