Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers all three bullet points required in the prompt: you recommended badminton, explained how your friend could learn it through practice or training centre classes, and suggested learning together. However, there is a significant issue regarding length. The task requires a minimum of 150 words, but this response only contains 120 words. Because the length requirement is not met, the development of ideas is limited and remains somewhat brief, particularly in elaborating on the benefits of the sport. To achieve a higher band score in Task Achievement, it is essential to write at least 150 words and expand further on each bullet point with additional details and supporting examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The email has a clear communicative intent and follows an appropriate informal letter format with a greeting and sign-off. Ideas are generally organised logically, starting with the recommendation, moving to learning methods, and concluding with a proposal to learn together. However, paragraphing is somewhat fragmented, with several very short paragraphs that disrupt the natural flow of the text. Cohesive devices are basic and occasionally repetitive. For example, expressions like 'If you want' and 'If you are interested' are used in close proximity. Referencing is mostly clear, but the overall structure would benefit from better linking words to create a smoother, more unified progression of ideas throughout the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for a basic transactional email, successfully communicating the main message. However, the range is quite limited and there are several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'recevied' instead of 'received', 'activies' instead of 'activities', 'recommand' instead of 'recommend', 'clases' instead of 'classes', and 'beacuse' instead of 'because'. Furthermore, there are awkward collocations like 'enjoyed to play' instead of 'enjoy playing' and typographical issues such as 'thwt'. These errors reflect a lack of precision in spelling and lexical control, holding the lexical score to the lower end of the spectrum.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

You attempted a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional clauses ('If you want to join the clases, you can join with me'). While meaning is generally communicated, the text contains frequent grammatical and mechanical errors. Examples include tense and infinitive mistakes like 'This sport can be learn easily' (should be 'can be learned') and awkward phrasing such as 'I will be appreciate if yoy take this sport' (should be 'I would appreciate it if you took up this sport'). Punctuation is also weak, with run-on sentences and commas incorrectly joining independent clauses. A greater focus on sentence structure accuracy and proofreading is needed to improve this score.
