Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions well. You successfully recommended a new sport by stating, I am writing a letter regarding join swimming sport, and you clearly identified a specific location at Unwin Park. You explained how your friend could learn the sport by mentioning that there would be two swim experts to guide and provide safety equipment, alongside public transport advice like You can take bus number 323. Finally, you successfully suggested learning the sport together by writing, I advice you that we will take swimming leason together. All parts of the prompt are addressed with relevant and coherent ideas, though some ideas lack full extension and contain minor unnatural expressions. Overall, your response meets the task requirements effectively, positioning this performance comfortably within the Band 6.0 territory.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear friendly opening and closing. Ideas are linked together using basic cohesive devices such as 'because', 'however', and 'moreover'. However, paragraphing is somewhat inadequate, as the body of the email is clustered into a dense block of text rather than being broken down into distinct paragraphs for each main idea. Furthermore, referencing is occasionally repetitive or slightly faulty, such as 'learning this sport' being repeated multiple times in close proximity. While the overall logical progression is clear enough for the reader to follow easily, the lack of effective paragraph breaks and limited flexibility in cohesion prevent a higher score. This aligns well with the Band 6 descriptor for this criterion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your lexical range is adequate for completing the general task. You attempted some less common vocabulary items and specific phrases, such as 'safety equipments', 'swim experts', and 'advertisement'. However, there are several lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'join swimming sport' instead of joining a swimming class, 'classess' with a spelling error, and 'euipments' which is incorrectly treated as a plural countable noun. Despite these errors, the vocabulary used is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly without impeding communication. Because you demonstrate an adequate range with some noticeable inaccuracies and spelling slips, this performance corresponds to a Band 5.5 score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You successfully attempted a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and subordinate conjunctions like 'because' and 'which is situated'. However, your writing contains frequent grammatical errors, such as article omission ('I saw advertisement on the newspaper'), incorrect tense usage ('I knew that you have been interested', 'It become easy'), and spelling/form errors ('I advice you', 'leason', 'exciting to your response'). These errors occur regularly throughout the text, though they rarely impede overall communication. Because you show a mix of sentence structures alongside noticeable grammatical and punctuation inaccuracies that require reader effort, your performance fits the Band 5.5 descriptors.
