Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Mohit,

I hope you are doing well. I was really pleased to hear that you are planning to take up a new sports. Since you want to stay active, I'd like to suggest start learning Bandminton. I believe bandminton would be suitable sport for you because this sport demands you to being on your feet and physically fit.

You can start learning this sport by registering with club, experienced trainners would teach you some basic techniques such as making service and tackle shuttle effectively. In addition, you can watch online tutorial video to improve your skills.

I'd also like to register with club and start learning bandminton with you. By this way, we can motivate each other to stay consistance to improve skills and the great way to do some physical activity after long hours being on chair at work.

I hope this advice would be helpful for you. Let me know when we can start learning sport together.

Best regards,

Axay Nayi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully covers all parts of the prompt in a natural and friendly tone. You clearly recommend a new sport, specifically badminton, as requested in the first bullet point. You then explain how your friend can learn this sport by suggesting they register with a club, work with experienced trainers to learn basic techniques like serving and tackling the shuttle, and watch online tutorial videos. Finally, you successfully propose that you both learn the sport together, noting the mutual motivation and health benefits of exercising after a long workday. Your purpose is transparent throughout, and all three bullet points are fully addressed with relevant, well-developed ideas, fulfilling the requirements for Band 7.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The email is logically organised into distinct paragraphs with a clear purpose for each. The opening and closing conventions are appropriate for a friendly letter. Cohesive devices and referencing are generally used effectively, such as 'In addition' and 'By this way' (though 'In this way' would be more natural). Paragraphing is handled well, grouping your recommendations, learning methods, and joint proposal logically. While there are a few minor instances of clunky referencing or transitions, the overall organisation and progression of ideas remain clear throughout, fitting the Band 7 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate and functional range of vocabulary for this general task, using terms like 'register', 'experienced trainers', 'techniques', and 'physical activity'. However, there are some noticeable vocabulary and spelling errors, such as 'sports' instead of 'sport', 'Bandminton' instead of 'badminton', 'trainners' instead of 'trainers', and 'consistance' instead of 'consistency'. Additionally, phrases like 'demands you to being on your feet' contain lexical and grammatical inaccuracies. Because these errors occur regularly but do not impede overall communication, the vocabulary reaches a solid Band 6 level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional and infinitive structures ('Since you want to stay active, I'd like to suggest start learning...'). However, there are several grammatical errors scattered throughout the text, including incorrect verb complements ('suggest start learning' instead of 'suggest starting'), awkward prepositional use ('register with club' instead of 'register with a club'), and minor tense or particle issues ('being on chair' instead of 'sitting in a chair'). These errors occasionally cause strain or hesitation for the reader, though they do not block understanding, which places your grammatical control securely at Band 6.
