Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Rahul,
You recently asked me for a recommendation to learn a new sport, and after much thinking I have come up with an answer. I think Tennis would be a great sport for you to learn.
I chose Tennis in particular because I know that you really like playing Badminton every evening with your friends in the nearby park. Badminton is a close match with Tennis and I feel it would be a very fun and rewarding experience for you to learn it. I know that you dislike Basketball and Baseball so those were never an option to consider. Moreover, our city has great facilities for playing tennis with plenty tennis fields available all day and many people there would be happy to teach beginners.
I also have a suggestion. I have also been wanting to get into a new sport for some time and after hearing your willingness for the same, I am willing to learn tennis with you.
Let me know your thoughts on learning Tennis with me.
Yours Sincerely,
Aryan

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0
The response successfully covers all bullet points required in the task prompt in an appropriate semi-formal tone suitable for an email to a friend. You clearly recommended tennis as a suitable sport, explaining your reasoning by connecting it to his current interest in badminton while noting his dislike of basketball and baseball. You also explained how he could learn the sport by mentioning available city facilities and coaches for beginners. Finally, you successfully suggested that you both learn the sport together, expressing enthusiasm for doing so. All parts of the prompt are fully and clearly addressed without any omissions or irrelevant details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 8.0
The email is logically organised and flows smoothly from the opening statement to the closing remarks. Each paragraph has a clear central theme: the first introduces the recommendation, the second provides the reasons and details on how to learn, and the third proposes learning together. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'In particular', and referencing pronouns like 'this sport' are used naturally and effectively to connect ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately and supports the overall readability and clear progression of the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient and natural range of vocabulary for this general task, using appropriate terms such as 'recommendation', 'rewarding experience', 'facilities', and 'beginners'. There are occasional minor lexical awkwardnesses, such as writing 'plenty tennis fields available' missing the preposition 'of' ('plenty of tennis fields'), and 'hearing your willingness for the same' which is a bit unnatural in informal communication ('hearing that you are willing as well' would be more natural). However, the vocabulary is adequate to convey all intended meanings clearly and effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.5
The writing contains a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'You recently asked me for a recommendation to learn a new sport, and after much thinking I have come up with an answer.' Grammatical control is generally strong, with many error-free sentences. There are minor slips, such as the missing preposition in 'plenty tennis fields' and a minor punctuation or phrasing quirk in the second paragraph. However, these errors are infrequent and do not impede communication at all, showing a solid command of English grammar.
