Your English-speaking friend who lives in your town has asked for your advice about learning a new sport. Write an email to your friend. In your email:

- suggest that you both learn this sport together
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Ahmad
Hope you are doing well and your quest to learn a new sport is not yet completed.
As you have played base ball for long time in school, I recommend you to try cricket which is very famous in this locality and its vicinity. The community centre of the town has a ground particulary assigned for this game. Since you already know the basics of hitting and throwing the ball in base ball, cricket would defienelty attract you towards it.
Learning will be fun, trust me, as we, group of colleagues, get togther each saturday, and enjoy having the sunny day at cricket ground. You will just learn it easily by copying us. Moreover, community centre also has assigned a mentor on ground, who helps newcommers to learn the basic techniques.
I have been playing cricket since last two weeks; however, I must admit that I am still at a beginning stage. Therefore, if you also joining, we will have a blast.
Please let me know your thoughts on it, and I will reserve your seat for next saturday's practice match, if you are interested.
Yours faithfully
Muhammad Waqass

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all bullet points required by the prompt in a natural and engaging tone suitable for an informal email. You clearly recommend cricket as a suitable sport based on your friend's background in baseball. You explain how your friend can learn by joining your group of colleagues on Saturdays or by utilising the community centre mentor. Finally, you explicitly suggest learning the sport together by asking your friend to join you. The purpose of the letter is entirely clear, and the tone is consistently friendly and appropriate for a General Training Task 1 response, fulfilling the criteria for a Band 7.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The email is structured logically into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct communicative purpose. The progression of ideas flows naturally from the recommendation and reasoning to the learning methods and the joint invitation. Cohesive devices such as 'Since', 'Moreover', and 'Therefore' are generally used appropriately to link ideas, although there are minor mechanical transitions. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to organise the content, allowing the reader to follow the email easily. Overall, this demonstrates clear logical organisation, aligning with Band 7.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for an informal letter, including terms like 'vicinity', 'mentor', 'newcomers', and 'techniques'. However, there are a few spelling and word choice errors, such as 'base ball' (usually written as baseball), 'particulary' (particularly), 'defienelty' (definitely), 'togther' (together), and 'beginning stage' (beginner stage). Despite these lexical inaccuracies, meaning is never obscured, and you attempt less common items like 'vicinity'. This performance sits comfortably at the Band 6.0 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response features a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional and causal clauses ('Since you already know the basics...', 'if you also joining, we will have a blast'). However, there are some noticeable grammatical errors, including 'since last two weeks' (which should be 'for the last two weeks') and 'if you also joining' (which should be 'if you also join'). Punctuation and article usage also show minor lapses. Because errors are present but do not impede overall communication, this corresponds to a Band 6.0.
