Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Nirav,

I hope you are doing well. I recently know about your interest to learn a new sport that is very interesting to me, because in the past, you are not the person who are interested in sports.

Firstly, there are various kind of sports which are very popular in the town, but I insist you to learn golf which would be suitable to you. It is quite difficult to learn, however with the few days of practice, you will be the good player of this game. Apart from that, there are many coaching classes run in the town for this sport, where you can take the admission and start learning as soon as possible.

I also have much interest to learn golf, so it would be great if we both could learn together. besides this, if we learn together then we don't get bored.

I hope my advice would be useful to you. I am eagerly waiting for your reply to start learning the sport together.

See you soon,

Dhruvit

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student successfully covers all bullet points required by the prompt. First, a clear recommendation is made to learn golf ('I insist you to learn golf which would be suitable to you'). Second, the method of learning is explained by mentioning coaching classes in the town ('there are many coaching classes run in the town for this sport, where you can take the admission'). Third, the suggestion to learn the sport together is clearly stated ('so it would be great if we both could learn together'). All three components of the task are adequately addressed, the tone is consistently friendly and appropriate for a General Training email, and ideas are sufficiently developed for this level, placing the response solidly at Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter is coherent with a logical overall arrangement. It opens with an appropriate greeting and pleasantry, follows a structured paragraph-by-paragraph format addressing each bullet point sequentially, and concludes naturally. Paragraphing is used reasonably to separate different points, such as the recommendation in paragraph two and the joint learning suggestion in paragraph three. However, cohesion is at times a bit mechanical or basic, relying on simple connectors like 'Firstly,' and 'Apart from that,' which keeps the score at Band 6. Referencing is generally clear, though minor linking issues occur, but overall the message flows easily enough for the reader to follow without confusion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the intended message. The student uses some appropriate everyday vocabulary and attempts less common phrases, such as 'coaching classes' and 'eagerly waiting'. However, there are notable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'I recently know about' instead of 'learned' or 'heard', and 'take the admission' instead of 'enroll' or 'sign up'. Additionally, phrases like 'you are not the person who are interested' reveal basic limitations. Because the vocabulary range is sufficient to convey the message despite these noticeable inaccuracies, it aligns with Band 6 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in structure. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include tense and agreement errors like 'I recently know about your interest to learn', 'you are not the person who are interested', 'with the few days of practice', and 'we don't get bored' (where conditional or modal structures might be smoother). Punctuation and capitalization are mostly fine, but grammatical inaccuracies are prominent enough to cause occasional hesitation, although they do not completely impede communication. This balance of mixed structures and frequent errors corresponds to Band 5.5.
