Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Vikas,
I hope you are doing well.
I want to tell you that there is a opening of new sports club (Great Sport) right behind my house. As you've asked me about your intrest in sports, there are vairety of sports in the new club. I personally visited the club and it is well mainatined with central AC. Badminton is a very good sport and not take much time to learn, It will be suitable for you. It just need a membership for 6 months.
This is quite easy sport which is often played by two players, you need to buy a pair of racket and some shuttlecock. The game is quite easy with some basic rules you need to be focuced and concentrated during the play.
Honestly speaking, I've played this game when I was younger but now I am also intrested to play badminton. So I also wanted to join you, we need to buy membership then we are allowed to play there.
Let me know if you like my suggestion. I am very excited to play with you.
Best wishes,
Sheetal.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, earning a solid score. You clearly recommend badminton as a suitable sport for Vikas, explain how he can learn it by joining the new sports club and buying basic equipment, and successfully suggest that you both learn it together. All three bullet points are covered with relevant ideas that are extended and supported throughout the email. Your purpose in writing is immediately clear and maintained effectively to the end, presenting a well-rounded message to your friend.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your email presents a clear overall logical organisation and progression. The text is divided into manageable paragraphs, and you make use of standard friendly letter conventions, such as an appropriate greeting and sign-off. Cohesive devices are generally well handled, with phrases like 'Honestly speaking' and 'Let me know' helping to structure the flow of ideas. However, referencing and cohesion can occasionally feel a bit mechanical or abrupt, such as in the transition between sentences in the second and third paragraphs. To reach the next band, you could use a wider variety of more sophisticated transitional markers to link your thoughts seamlessly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating your message about sports clubs and equipment. You make some attempts to use less common items, such as 'membership' and 'concentrated', but these are accompanied by noticeable spelling and word choice errors, including 'opening' instead of opening, 'intrest' instead of interest, 'vairety' instead of variety, and 'mainatined' instead of maintained. Furthermore, phrases like 'not take much time to learn' and 'It just need' show limited lexical precision. To improve this area, you need to work on spelling accuracy and expand your range of natural collocations when describing everyday activities.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over punctuation and sentence structure. However, there are frequent errors in grammar, such as missing articles ('there is a opening', 'It just need a membership'), incorrect verb forms ('not take much time', 'we need to buy membership then we are allowed'), and comma splices ('Badminton is a very good sport and not take much time to learn, It will be suitable for you'). These errors show that while communication is rarely impeded, your control over grammatical structures lacks consistency. To achieve a higher band, you should aim for greater accuracy in subject-verb agreement and article usage across a wider variety of complex sentences.
