Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Raj,
How have you been? I was suprised when I get you letter asking a suggestion to learn new sport. I would love to help you and provide my insight on that.
Considering you goal of losing some weight, I'll reccomonde to involve yourself in learning swimming, given that swimming is also one the best form of exercise to reduce weight and maintain the physique.
Fortunetly, government has opened the public swimming club near to my home recently, which will be perfact place to learn this new skill. The club includes renowned instructor who has acheived medals in swimming competition. For that reason, the club is secured top rank in city level.
Honestly, I was planning too to join this club, as I wanted to learn swimming. If you'd like, we can join the club togather, which allow us to enjoy spending time togather and motivate each other to work hard to master skills in swimming.
Let me know your thought on that, I'ill wait for your answer before booking class for my self. I'm excited to see you soon doing activity togather! Lots of love to you and your family! Take care.
Your friend,
Milan

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
You successfully cover all the requirements of the prompt by recommending swimming to your friend, explaining how he can learn through a newly opened public club with renowned instructors, and suggesting that you both learn together. Your tone is appropriately friendly and consistent throughout the email. The ideas are clearly presented, though certain points, such as the description of the club's achievements, tend to over-generalize slightly rather than providing deep elaboration. Nonetheless, the purpose of the letter is fully achieved, and all bullet points are addressed with a clear and purposeful position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The email demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression from the friendly opening, through the advice and club details, down to the final invitation. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to separate distinct points, such as the recommendation, the club details, and the shared plan. You use a good variety of cohesive devices such as 'Considering that', 'Fortunetly', and 'Honestly' to link your thoughts smoothly, although occasional referencing is slightly mechanical. Overall, the message flows naturally and guides the reader easily through the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items and collocations like 'maintain the physique', 'renowned instructor', and 'master skills'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the response, such as 'suprised' instead of 'surprised', 'get' instead of 'got', 'reccomonde' instead of 'recommend', 'perfact' instead of 'perfect', 'acheived' instead of 'achieved', and 'togather' instead of 'together'. While these slips do not impede communication, they reflect a typical pattern where precision is affected by minor mechanical errors in spelling and collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like relative clauses ('who has achieved medals') and conditional clauses ('If you'd like, we can join'). However, there are some persistent grammatical errors and inaccuracies, such as 'asking a suggestion' instead of 'asking for a suggestion', 'one the best form' instead of 'one of the best forms', 'government has opened' missing the article 'the', and punctuation slips in spacing around commas. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the grammar score from reaching a higher band.
