Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear James,
I hope you are doing well. There are m,any sports available in my town but here I'm suggesting my personnel favourite sports to you. Firstly, you are interested in tennis so much and you follow all the grand slams and championship tournament as well. A reason I reccommand you to do this sport is coach are so good in the academy and they teach you with standrand and rules so you can play championship as well. Secondly, they are so many courts available to pratice at any time and they are open for almost 12 hours a day and during weekends they are open for 16 hours. I recently joined over there and now I learn the basic things. You alreagy play a tennis so if you enroll yourself ovber there maybe we both can practice together. Also, you can teach me some important and new techniques which you already mastered.
Hope to see you soon!
Yors faithfully,
Jay

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all bullet points required by the prompt, which pushes it into the upper tier for this criterion. You clearly recommend a suitable sport by suggesting tennis, explain how James can learn it by mentioning the academy, its facilities, and instructors, and successfully suggest learning it together by proposing mutual practice and technique sharing. The ideas are largely relevant and address the situation well. However, some aspects feel a bit under-developed, preventing a higher evaluation; for example, the explanation of the academy could have included more specific details about classes or beginner courses. Additionally, the sign-off "Yors faithfully" is slightly inappropriate for an email to a friend, where "Best wishes" or "Yours sincerely" would be more fitting, though this is a minor convention slip.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The email presents a coherent overall arrangement and flows reasonably well from introducing the sport to suggesting joint practice. You make use of basic cohesive devices such as "Firstly" and "Secondly" to structure the points, and referencing like "over there" and "this sport" is generally functional. However, the logical progression is at times slightly disjointed. The transition between discussing the academy's hours and your own recent enrollment feels a bit abrupt. Furthermore, paragraphing is not fully utilised; the entire body of the email is grouped into a single block of text rather than being broken down into logical paragraphs for the introduction, recommendation, explanation, and final suggestion, which holds the overall organisation back.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, displaying a sufficient range to communicate basic ideas about sports and practice routines. You attempt some less common vocabulary such as "championship tournament" and "techniques". However, there are several noticeable spelling and word choice inaccuracies throughout the text, such as "m,any", "personnel" instead of "personal", "reccommand", "standrand", and "pratice". There are also awkward collocations like "you are interested in tennis so much" and "you alreagy play a tennis". While these errors do not completely impede communication, they recur frequently enough to prevent the lexical score from rising into a higher band, showing that you need to pay closer attention to word forms and spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating clauses connected by "and" or "so". There are several error-free sentences, particularly in your opening and closing remarks. However, grammatical errors occur across various structures, including article misuse ("play a tennis"), subject-verb agreement and pluralisation issues ("coach are so good", "they are so many courts"), and prepositions ("teach you with standrand", "enroll yourself ovber there"). Punctuation also contains minor mechanical slips, such as the misplaced comma in "m,any". These errors are typical of a mixed level where simple structures are handled well, but attempts at slightly more intricate patterns or plural agreement lead to frequent mistakes that require the reader to occasionally pause.
