Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sommy,
How are you doing and how is everything with you? I am aware you are good in running and I think engaging in track events will benefit you more.
Track event like running, will be a best option for you knowing how you have always talked about it. To start up, on week days you can wake up early, do some aerobes to get ur self started, graduate to jugging and finish up with an active 10-20minutes running exercise while on weekends, you can join the running club at the stadium to further develope your skills.
We can learn this together for the next three months. I will always wake tou up once am awake every morning for a run, so doing you get to train your muscles while i get to keep the minimum fitness i need to kick start my day.
I wish you the very best always and I look to forward to hearing from you.
Warm regards,
Mercy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt in a friendly, semi-formal tone appropriate for an email to a friend. You clearly recommend track events, specifically running, and build a strong justification based on her prior interest. You explain how she can learn this sport by outlining a progressive weekly routine involving early morning aerobic exercises, jogging, and stadium club sessions. Furthermore, you effectively suggest learning together for the next three months and detail the shared morning routine. All bullet points from the instructions are covered well, and your ideas are extended and supported adequately, demonstrating a clear position throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The email has a clear logical organisation and progression throughout, starting with friendly greetings, moving through recommendations and training steps, and concluding with warm regards. You make use of standard communicative formatting with clear paragraphs. Cohesive devices are generally well managed, with transitional markers like 'To start up', 'while on weekends', and 'We can learn this together' helping to guide the reader. However, referencing and cohesion occasionally feel slightly mechanical, preventing the text from reaching a higher descriptor level where cohesion is completely smooth and unobtrusive.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, though it remains somewhat basic and contains noticeable inaccuracies. You attempt some less common items and subject-specific terms, such as 'track events' and 'aerobes', but there are issues with word choice and spelling, for instance writing 'jugging' instead of 'jogging' and 'develope' instead of 'develop'. Expressions like 'good in running' instead of 'good at running' further indicate a limited lexical precision that occasionally requires the reader to interpret your intended meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating your ability to construct multi-clause sentences such as 'I will always wake tou up once am awake every morning for a run'. However, there are several persistent errors in grammar, spelling within grammar patterns, and punctuation, including typographical errors like 'tou' for 'you' and 'am' for 'I am', along with missing articles and preposition issues like 'benefit you more' versus 'benefit from'. These errors are present throughout the text, though they rarely impede overall communication.
