Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Habibullah,

First of all I hope that you'll be fine and be enjoying the best of yiur health and spirit. So as in the last mail you have asked me to suggest you a sport, so the sport you should learn my advice is "Badminton" it is quite a difficult sport as it demands the overall fitness of body. It is said that Badminton is the best sport for physical healt as it involves the movement of full body, you dashes toward the shutle and jump these all movement makes you agile. And to tell you I'm quite a good player of it, I have been playing this since I was in the college, and also i have been in the college team so i konw the rules very well. You should start learning the rules first via which you could get an overview of this sport, and it the best proven way one can start learing a new sport. I could teach you these rules and could also help you out in finding your first racket that suits you best ,so we could start playing. You should tell me the time you're free so we could go to the sports shop to get you a new racket. Let me know in the reply the time you're free.

With best wishes your friend.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully covers all the bullet points required by the task prompt. You appropriately recommend badminton as a suitable sport, explain how your friend can learn it by starting with the rules and choosing a racket, and suggest learning it together by offering to teach the rules and go shopping together. While all parts are addressed, some ideas show a tendency toward uneven development. For instance, the explanation of how to learn the sport could have been expanded with more specific training steps. The tone is informal and friendly, fitting the general letter format, but a bit more elaboration on the joint activity would fully elevate this aspect to the next level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement and a clear purpose from beginning to end. However, the structuring of the text is somewhat constrained because the entire body of the email is written as a single dense paragraph rather than being broken down into logical paragraph units for each point. Cohesive devices are used, but referencing and linking are sometimes mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'so' and 'and'. To achieve a higher standard, you should separate your introduction, recommendation, explanation of learning, and joint suggestion into distinct paragraphs, and employ a wider, more natural variety of transitional phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'overall fitness', 'agile', and 'overview'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that reflect a limited level of precision. For example, 'yiur' is misspelled, 'shutle' is missing a letter, and phrases like 'play this since I was in the college' show minor collocation slips. You make some attempts to use less common vocabulary, but these are occasionally inaccurate. To improve your lexical score, you need to focus on accurate spelling, more precise word choices, and natural collocations without relying on repetitive basic terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating that you can construct multi-clause sentences such as 'You should start learning the rules first via which you could get an overview of this sport'. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that persist throughout the text, including run-on sentences, missing commas before conjunctions, and issues with articles and prepositions like 'in the college' instead of 'at college'. Because these errors occur quite regularly alongside faulty attempts at complex structures, your grammatical control remains at this level. Focusing on punctuation rules and checking basic verb agreements will help you reduce these frequent errors.
