Dear ....................................,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Gurpreet,

It has been a long time since we met, I hope you are doing well. I am here to give you a best advice about the sports which would benefit you. Badmintion is the sport which would be most suitable for you. As you are a beginner in this field, I do not want to be harsh on you by guiding you with daunting sports. This sport would help you to maintain your health and keeps you flexible.

You may take classes from a tutor which is living near my hometown. He is a excellent teacher and provides a proper guidance from beginning. Moreover, you may also practice with our other friends in a badminton court which is situated in our college.

I am thinking of joining you as this would be a great fun. Besides this we would together learn something innovative. Kindly let me know from which day and date to start with the practice.

I would be looking forward for your reply.

Yours faithfully,

Ramneek Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three requested points: you recommend badminton, explain that your friend could take lessons and practise at the college court, and invite them to learn with you. The advice is relevant and the friendly purpose is clear. You also give some support for the recommendation by noting that the sport can help maintain health and flexibility. To develop the ideas further, explain briefly why badminton suits this particular friend—for example, its pace, accessibility, or suitability for a beginner—and add a practical detail about arranging lessons or practice. The invitation is present, but “from which day and date” is less natural and could be made clearer by suggesting a specific time or asking when they are available.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The email has a clear progression: greeting and recommendation, learning options, then the suggestion that you join in together. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Besides this” help connect related points. The reader can follow the message without difficulty. Some connections are slightly mechanical, however, and the opening sentence joins two complete thoughts with a comma: “It has been a long time since we met, I hope you are doing well.” Use a full stop or a linking word there. You could also make the transition into the invitation more direct, so the final paragraph feels like a natural continuation of the practical advice.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task and includes some useful choices, such as “beginner,” “flexible,” and “practice.” The sport and learning arrangements are easy to understand. There are, however, several inaccurate or unnatural choices that limit precision: “a best advice,” “daunting sports,” “a proper guidance,” and “a great fun.” “Badmintion” is also misspelled. These do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but they make parts of the email sound less natural. Aim for familiar, accurate collocations rather than more elaborate wording, and check spelling and countable/uncountable noun use when proofreading.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex forms, including the reason clause “As you are a beginner in this field” and the relative clause describing the tutor. The message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. In “I hope you are doing well,” the opening is joined to the previous independent clause with a comma; separate the sentences or use a conjunction. “This sport would help you to maintain your health and keeps you flexible” shifts verb form; use “keep” to match “help.” There are also article and agreement problems in “He is a excellent teacher” and “which is living near my hometown.” Review articles, verb forms, and relative-clause choices to make your otherwise clear sentences more accurate.
